ABOUT THIS WEEK
The photographers are invisible to their subjects behind specially imported one-way glass so as not to startle the subject with any movements or sounds and are seated on comfortable executive-style chairs. Tripods with gimbal heads are provided in each hide. A solar-powered air conditioning unit situated in the roof of the hide controls the temperature and humidity within.
We will enjoy all the flexibility one may desire during a photographic safari week.
We will spend our days sharing our time between hide photography and game drives, and, possibly, also some walking safaris with the habituated pack of wild dogs.
Only 6 guests will be hosted by our photographer Linda Oteri during this week, and only 3 vehicle will be out in the field, with no possibility to be disturbed at any time.
Lightroom sessions will be held at any time, according to your specific needs.
All this makes for an unforgettable experience!
OUR PHOTO-SAFARI STYLE
Our photographic safaris and workshops are designed for photographers of all levels, from beginners to experts. There will always be one of our professional photographers to assist you. Our photographic safaris are focused on tracking wildlife, according to the experience of our guides and of the wildlife photographer who will host the group. To maximize the photographic aspects, there will never be more than two people in each row of the car, which will always be reserved for our small group. Our vehicle will always be positioned in the best way possible, thinking both about composition and light, to allow you to take great shots. We will look for interesting scenes and stick to them as long as possible, in order to make the most out of every possible interaction. During this trip we will experience hide photography, where waiting in silence for animals to show up will be very well rewarded.

IT IS ALL ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY, BUT THE EXPERIENCE WILL BE FASCINATING
A PHOTOGRAPHIC INSIGHT
Spread over 6000 hectares of pristine bushveld, fever tree forests and rolling hills, Zimanga is bisected by the Mkuze River and home to a huge variety of animals and birds. From leopards to wild dogs and elephants to cheetah, nearly every sought-after sighting is accounted for. There are over 400 bird species recorded at the reserve.
Something about the 5 Zimanga photographic hides: there are two Bird Bath Hides or Reflection Hides, called the Mkhombe and Bhejane hides named after the isiZulu words for white and black rhinos respectively. These are ideal for small bird photography.
The larger Lagoon hide focuses on waterbirds and crocodiles in the summer season. Umgodi Overnight Hide is currently the only hide that is custom designed for large mammal photography.
The bee-eater hide is a mobile unit that can be placed in close proximity to where white-fronted bee-eaters nest and produces stunning results for these colourful birds.
The vulture hide is situated on a hill with great mountain backdrop, and the action can be fierce as up to 5 species of vultures, alongside other scavengers, compete for food.
Hide sessions will be planned according to guests desires and the group may be split between game drives and hide photography, in order to give everyone the best experience.
During the game drives we will track animals according to guests preferences and the suggestion of our guide, we usually have daily sightings of the pack of wild dogs, and we might be able to get off the vehicle and shoot from ground level these very special creatures.
September is a very pleasant month in Kwa Zulu Natal, with temperatures range from 20° to 30° celsius. This is absolutely a not to be missed trip!!
The new main luxurious Lodge of Zimanga will be hosting us during this week: it offers spacious lounge areas inside the main building, on the decks as well as an elevated view of the Mkhombe valley from the roof lounge.
Other facilities include a boardroom, library and quiet lounge attached to the south-eastern wing for those seeking to escape the crowd.
The term crowd is loosely used here as the lodge will only sleep a maximum of 14 guests, hosted in six free standing two-bedded units with two additional single rooms, offering privacy within a splendid KwaZulu Natal lowveld setting.
Single rooms with no supplements are available only here at the main lodge, if you travel alone, reserve your single room soon!
For now we can show you a rendering, as the construction work are still running but almost finished. Images will be available soon!
Please note that in 2018 no guests from outside the reserve will be allowed to enter in Zimanga.
